Whenever people would ask me what would I be doing as a missionary on the World Race, I would get this tense feeling inside of me.

How do I explain being a missionary? Are they going to understand?

So my explanation would become long and out drawn of different tasks of what I thought missionaries do, and what it looks like to be a missionary. Secretly making sure this person doesn’t think I’m just going to be vacationing in all these different countries.

Albert Einstein says, “If you can’t understand it simply then you don’t understand it well enough” …. and to be honest I really didn’t understand it.

I have lived the past 5 months as a missionary and it doesn’t need some long exquisite, in hopes that the reaction of the person isn’t judgmental, explanation.

It’s a simple answer: I’m here to love people. That’s it. Not change them, love them.

And honestly that’s it for you too. We can sit and explain our roles as children of the Lord, what he asks of us, and recite Bible verses. But does all that really equate to understanding our mission?

I LOVE the people I have encountered. And having the pressure off when we humbly allow God to do His job and we do ours brings the sweetest freedom and partnership with Him.

My prayer for you friend is to take a breathe. God designed the way we walk so that it wasn’t some long explanation. Get to know Him individually, allow Him to work on you and inevitably you will love His people.

Pretty simple.

  3. Amen, Becca. We are all here to do God’s work and that is to love others as you simply put it. We are in prayer for you. Blessings, Sherry Talbot

  4. I also get that feeling when people ask what we are doing haha. It’s true this calling mostly just comes down to love! And you have done that so well. I’m excited to see how God is shaking things up in this new season of the race on your new team. Keep taking care of the queen (;

  5. I believe your words are beautiful and true Kind of let go and let God. Perhaps the key to peace that passes understanding. I love you.

  6. Wow BEX!!! So well-written. So authentic. So vulnerable and real – I LOVE YOU AND IT IS JUST THAT SIMPLE!!!

  7. Powerful! 1 Corinthians 13. May the peace of Jesus Christ be with you always!

  8. Very well put. You’re an inspiration to all of us watching and following from afar. You are a reminder sent from God, to love when the world is filled with hate and to have grace in moments it would be much easier to hold grudges. Grateful for your friendship. Humbled to be friends with someone so brave and selfless to leave everything she once knew to enter the unknown to simply love others. Counting the days until you’re home??

  9. Also totally think exclamation points are being counted as questions. We are excited over here haha

  10. Loving others is the way to show them God’s love. Praying for your missionary work to draw others to know Jesus personally and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. And then for those believers to love others like you do, and on and on . Lord, praying Your Kingdom come, Your will be done.

  11. Bex, your writing never fails to encourage. Shooot I see some book+speaking deals in your future baby! SO proud of you for being honest and humble, most of for LOVING the people well. ??ps pura vida????

  13. Amen Becca! Like someone said above loving others is a way of showing Gods loves. It truly is inspiring what you’re doing. Some people just need to be love, loved until they can love themselves. Much love to you on journey my friend. Life is more beautiful when you’re living to help others.

  14. So simple, but so good!! I have LOVED being on your team and experiencing the impact you have on people by simply loving them. It’s incredible!! LOVE YOU!!

  15. Well I tried to post some claping emojis ha. The Jesus way is the way of love, it really is that simple! Keep lovin’

  16. this is realllll. there should be a blur between being a missionary and being a God’s daughter! our mission comes forth from who we are as God’s kids! we are children of Love Himself and when we walk out being His child we won’t just go on mission trips we will be missionaries. so. good.

  17. Becca – what a sweet encouragement and reminder this was to me. We are called to LOVE. That’s what Jesus did and it’s what we get to do too. You love people so naturally and it’s an encouragement to see. Honored to get to do this journey with you.

  18. “Love God, Love People!” Isn’t that what Jesus did? : ) Thanks for sharing a window into your life on mission! Jesus is proud of you!
