Whenever people would ask me what would I be doing as a missionary on the World Race, I would get this tense feeling inside of me.
How do I explain being a missionary? Are they going to understand?
So my explanation would become long and out drawn of different tasks of what I thought missionaries do, and what it looks like to be a missionary. Secretly making sure this person doesn’t think I’m just going to be vacationing in all these different countries.
Albert Einstein says, “If you can’t understand it simply then you don’t understand it well enough” .... and to be honest I really didn’t understand it.
I have lived the past 5 months as a missionary and it doesn’t need some long exquisite, in hopes that the reaction of the person isn’t judgmental, explanation.
It’s a simple answer: I’m here to love people. That’s it. Not change them, love them.
And honestly that’s it for you too. We can sit and explain our roles as children of the Lord, what he asks of us, and recite Bible verses. But does all that really equate to understanding our mission?
I LOVE the people I have encountered. And having the pressure off when we humbly allow God to do His job and we do ours brings the sweetest freedom and partnership with Him.
My prayer for you friend is to take a breathe. God designed the way we walk so that it wasn’t some long explanation. Get to know Him individually, allow Him to work on you and inevitably you will love His people.
Pretty simple.
