Hey Friends,
On April 13th (almost a month ago, time flies) my team packed up our bags and headed to the mountains of San Jose, Costa Rica! We were SO blessed working with the ministry ZOE Future Leaders with Edgar and his wife Elena.
This ministry looked different than anything we had experienced in Colombia. It was us and them (plus their dog Bella), that’s it! Our new ministry was farming. Learning the ins and outs of growing our own food and understanding how God intended life before the fall to be.
So, I wrote a list of 10 Moments in Eden that will help bring you into my experience in the garden.
1. Tent Therapy: that’s right, we slept in our tents for 2 whole weeks. And honestly, having my own little room for the first time in 3 months was amazing. And talk about faith when your laying in your tent during your daily mountain monsoon.
2. Worm Picking: we spent time tending beds of cabbage, onions, basil, tomatoes (many other veggies and spices). In the beds I learned how “golden” worms are, instinctively I would pick out every worm I saw and place him in a nice new bed. I’m sure you can picture my fingernail beds as well.
3. Team Loving: My team The Big Finishers was placed so perfectly for this ministry by The Lord. We laughed more, grew more, and learned more about each other than we had in 3 months in Colombia. Our team was a testimony to Gods faithfulness and His promises.
4. Dirt Grounding: did you know being in dirt sets off serotonin in your brain? Well go stick your hands in the ground and don’t wear shoes for weeks. You won’t regret it 🙂
5. Learning Gods Perfection: in the Bible we read passages on passages about gardens, fruits, trees… the list go on. Jesus made multiple references between the Father and us through nature. Why? Because He’s creation can be sustained 100% by Him. Edgar taught us how to grow a self sustaining garden that doesn’t involve manual hard labor or hours of toiling. Gods creation shows us new characteristics, His purpose for us and His idea of relationship with us. All that through some plants….. YES
6. My Parents Garden: Growing up both my parents had gardens. My dad grew fruits and veggies and my mom grew beautiful roses, vines and many other flowers. On the farm I couldn’t help but to be FILLED with love thinking of my parents working in our gardens. How they felt out there in the dirt, eating what God provided for our family or the beauty that always surrounded us. I love them both in a deeper way because of this experience.
7. Control: ok YALL, so maybe I’m new to the government control on seeds. I watched a teammate get her seeds taken at TSA and honestly didn’t know why. Then I experience the importance of organic seeds, seed trading, food control in the world and boom my mind expanded to a new level.
8. Bella’s Land: Bella is the farm dog and she runs that land. She loveddddd to be pet, run, play and annoy ya haha. She guarded us when in the middle of the night we heard a pack of wolves (probably at least 30) surrounding the area. She would not stop barking, keeping us safe.
9.Ripe Tomatoes: those tomatoes tasted different. That’s all. Ask my teammate Addi.
10. New Wine: the song “New Wine” by Hillsong says, In the crushing, In the pressing, You are making new wine. In the soil I now surrender. You are breaking new ground. After leaving Eden, I feel like new wine. God expanded all of what I thought, brought in experiences from my past, threw me into the soil (literally) and came out new. I love Him for that.
This is Edgar saying Goodbye
